2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 4,300 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Golden Pass Rail line from Interlaken to Brienz

Returning from Interlaken from Geneva was another experience worth remembering. We had scheduled our entire trip in such a way that we would return to Geneva by 7, but fate had some other plans for us. Golden Pass Line of Swiss Railway is one of the most famous scenic rail lines in the world. Seeing it at Interlaken station enticed us and we climbed on it thinking it was going to Lausanne.  We realized quite late that it was going in right opposite direction and hence had to get off at station which happened to be Brienz,a small town on the lake.

This line travels from Interlaken to Luzern, which passes right next to Brienz Lake. The view is simply out of this world. Here are some of the pics.

Jungfraujoch- Heaven on Earth

I never believed that Switzerland is the heaven on earth. However the trip was a true eye opener. The Alps are absolutely unbelievably beautiful. Its an experience that no camera can capture. I have tried capturing the entire round trip from Interlaken-Lauterbrunnen-Wengen-Scheidegg-Grindelwald- Interlaken. Here are the pics, kindly go through each of them to experience parts of the Swiss Alps.

Fussen and Neuschwanstein Castle- the fairy tale castle

Running and catching the train on the last moment was the trademark of this trip, and it so happened again on Munich station. My hostel was stone throw away distance from the railway station, but an unscheduled call sent me into panic mode. I caught the train to Fussen on last second( not even minute). Thanks to German guard who delayed the train for me when he saw me running towards it.  The truth is I wasnt expecting this of all places in Germany.

Fussen was 4 hours train journey from Munich through the Bravarian hindterland. A bus trip from Fussen to village of Hohenschwangau took me closer to the fairy tale castle and arguably one of the best Gothic castles in the world.

Village of Hohenschwangau  has two castles. King Ludwig II grew up in the Hohenschwangau Castle and later built the Neuchwanstein Castle nearby. He was Germany’s youngest king and was very eccentric! He had a dream to build a brand new castle that looked like no other. He sure succeeded as you can tell from the photos! It really is a fairytale castle and was the inspiration for Disney’s sleeping beauty castle.
